We had some interesting new manipulatives at our morning work table today.  We really liked the magnet wands and bottles.  (These are easy to make at home: Add some metallic items to a clean plastic jar or bottle and glue the lid closed.  We use magnet wands from Discount School Supply to experiment with the bottles, but any magnet will work!)  Of course, we also had some fun with our Potato Heads!

We colored some butterfly pictures with skinny big kid crayons.  Then we looked at the caterpillar who was making a chrysalis right next to his two friends in our butterfly house.  We can't wait to see them become butterflies!

We counted to 15 on our September calendar, said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang "Salute the Flag" before we took our bathroom break and went outside.  There were some other friends on the playground today, so we practiced sharing and good manners.

When we came back into the cool classroom, we started our centers.  We had one more day of playing with our car garage and Little People house at the rug center. On Wednesday we'll use our housekeeping center for the first time--that will be exciting!  

At Miss Paula's center we learned how to use our school tracing forms.  We had a little trouble holding the plastic with one hand while tracing and coloring with the other, but we kept trying.  When we finished we played with our magnetic bottles again while waiting for our friends at their centers.

At Miss Kathleen's center we decorated gingerbread men.  This also gave us a chance to practice using our glue pots again--and to talk a lot about colors and shapes as we chose our decorations.

After we cleaned up our centers, we said our blessing and sang "Happy Birthday" to one of our friends.  Then we had a special birthday treat of sweet ice cream and a few salty pretzels.  It was delicious!

To finish off our day, we listened to The Gingerbread Man Loose in School book then sang and danced to "We Love Peanut Butter" by Dr. Jean.
