Monday, January 30

After our Morning Work, we spent a little bit of time outside.  It took us a while to get our coats on, though!  We practice this skill every cold day.

After we came in and warmed up, we started our centers.  At Miss Laura's center, we worked on some Groundhog Day projects.  We'll bring these home on Wednesday.  At Miss Kathleen's center we painted with ice cubes and red/white powder paint.  We're going to turn these into something special for Valentine's Day.  At our rug center, we still had our dollhouses, but we also had cardboard bricks.  They were really fun to build with!

Cars and dollhouses

Monday, January 23

We had some new things out at Morning Work today.  We especially liked our flannel board Potato Heads and our Name Game cards.

We also had some new and different things at centers.  At Miss Kathleen's center we painted with snow paint (It was a little messy and needs to dry another day!) and then played in our snow sensory bin.  At Miss Laura's center we learned how to use our gear board and built with Crystal Climbers.  At our rug center we had our cars again, but we also had our doll houses!

After we cleaned up centers we had Spanish with Senora Emily.  We learned some new words and a new song about FRIENDS!

Because we had a rainy day carpool, we got to watch the Heidi Songs ABC video while we were waiting for our rides.  We really like to sing along with the letter songs!

Pajama Day!

Our friends from Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Heebner's class came over to our room to watch FROZEN, eat popcorn and cookies, and drink hot chocolate!

Mid-January

On Friday we helped even out the mulch on the playground with some cool kid-sized rakes.  Then we came in and started our centers.  At Miss Kathleen's center we worked our finger muscles by sharpening crayons, then we melted them and turned them into snowflakes! At our rug center, we had another day of playing with cars.  We've had a lot of fun with those!  Miss Laura helped us at our writing center.  We practiced our grips, writing and drawing, and cutting and gluing.  We cleaned up our centers and then had music with Miss Becca!

On Wednesday we started our day by making a snowman!  This one was made of crumpled up paper and plastic bags, so we knew he wouldn't melt.  At Miss Kathleen's center we practiced name recognition by playing BINGO!  It was another day of cars at the rug center.  We could play with those cars forever!  At Miss Jessie's center we made more snowmen--but these were made out of play-doh!

Wednesday, January 11

We enjoyed doing some new things at Morning Work.  We even used some teamwork with our manipulatives!

At Miss Kathleen's center we had lots of sparkles!  We peeled the backing off contact paper snowflakes and rolled them in glitter, then we practiced writing our names with glitter crayons.  At Miss Laura's center we worked our finger muscles and our imaginations.  We pushed golf tees and pipe cleaners into styrofoam boards.  We made some cool designs! At our rug center we had another day to play with cars and all of the fun things that go with them.

We really like the January bulletin board in the hall by the bathroom!

Monday, January 9

We took a walk around the outside this morning (after spending a lot of time practicing putting coats and jackets on and off!) and found some ice.  We broke icicles off the fountain, found ice puddles on the playground, and held ice in our hands until it melted!

We came inside and warmed up during centers. At Miss Laura's center we made snowmen out of icy blue playdoh.  We really worked our hand muscles!  At Miss Kathleen's center we played in the snow sensory bin and worked some more hand muscles by punching out snowflake shapes.  At the rug center we had cars, cars, and more cars!  We did a great job of playing together and sharing.

After we cleaned up our centers, we welcomed Senora Emily for Spanish.  We practiced moving our manos and dedos--and learned a new Spanish song about snow/nieve!
