Grandparents' Day Celebration

 

  

Wednesday, November 17

In addition to our silly scissors cutting table for our morning work, we had spider connectors (These can be used for sorting and patterning.  They also help fine motor skills because the little spider legs can be intertwined and connected.) and puzzles (If you look at the photos below, you can see that we have worked our way up to 20-25 piece puzzles--we only need a little help near the corners.)

In centers today, we played with our horses and giant legos on the rug, we practiced our weaving skills with Thanksgiving placemats, and we finished up our Native American costumes for our Grandparents' Day program next week.  It was a busy morning!

Monday, November 15

Both Mrs. Hennessy and Miss Kathleen were so busy with centers today that they didn't take any pictures while we were in the classroom.  Mrs. Hennessy helped us paint our costumes for our Thanksgiving Grandparents' Day program and Miss Kathleen helped us put husks on our Indian corn and make our Thanksgiving pictures.  Our third center was building with giant legos and playing with horses up on the rug.  We had fun at all three of them.

We bundled up to go outside only to find that we didn't even need our jackets!  We had a great time playing--and playacting!--in the beautiful sunshine. 

Tuesday, November 9

I often think I have the best job in the world.  Despite my complete lack of artistic ability, my drawings are cheered and appreciated by my class.  Despite my utterly ordinary voice, my students listen to my songs and chants as if I were an American Idol.  On those mornings when I wish I could have had another hour of sleep and another cup of coffee before facing the world, their good morning greetings and absolute joy in being alive is contagious.  All I have to do is show up and pay attention.

Friday, November 5

We had some fun Friday centers today!  We got to use our gear table for one more day, we finished our coffee filter turkeys with Mrs. Hennessy, and we wrote/drew/played with shaving cream with Miss Kathleen.

Then we put our jackets on and went out to the playground for a little while.  As soon as we came back in, it was time for music with Miss Caitlin.  We practiced some of our songs for Grandparents' Day (See http://www.wippreschool.blogspot.com/ for our class helping Miss Caitlin perform!)  and then we had a special request for a "You Are My Sunshine" sing-along.

Wednesday, November 3

We had a wonderful Wednesday in our room today! We played some name games with Miss Kathleen, we worked with our gear table up on the rug, and we made patterns and counted candy corn with Mrs. Hennessy.  After our busy centers, we went out on the playground in the beautiful cool weather.  When we came back in, there was still more fun!  We had cupcakes for Adelle's birthday.  It was really a wonderful Wednesday!

Monday, November 1

We welcomed another new friend to our class today.  Adelle learned all about centers and our line-up snake rope and our fun on the playground! 

We had all new and exciting centers today.  On the rug we played with our gear table:  Some of us even figured out how to make a whole line of gears move at once!  We worked on a Thanksgiving turkey project with Mrs. Hennessy.  We used fall colors to mark up our coffee filters.  Later this week we'll turn them into turkeys.  We did name puzzles with Miss Kathleen.  We had to put together the letters in our name--and then we tried to do the same thing with our friends' names!
