We had fun exploring some new Morning Work activities! You can see us trying on masks and looking at the Viewmaster and having lots of fun with our friends.
Our rug center stayed the same today--we'll have something new on Friday.
At Mrs. Hennessy's center we made snowmen! Instead of using snow that would melt, we used white playdough. We added buttons, pipe cleaners, cloth, googly eyes, and lots of other materials. We made snow families, snow pets, snow fairies, snow everythings! We also talked a lot and told stories about our snow creations.
At Miss Kathleen's center, we talked about penguins and then made a pipe cleaner penguin. We spiraled a black pipe cleaner around a pencil and folded smaller black, white, and orange pipe cleaners in half. Then Miss Kathleen helped us twist them together into a penguin. We played with them on our "icebergs" and then packed them into our plastic bags to bring home. (I'm including a photo of the pattern we used so you can see what our penguins originally looked like. Some of them took quite a beating with the dramatic play going on at the center! I adapted the design to allow the children to do as much as possible, so ours are a little simpler than the originals.)
We've also been working on writing and recognizing our names. Today we used our dry erase crayons on our name sheets--then we erased them with old socks! Some of us are practicing our grip, some are tracing the letters, and some of us are writing our letters. We're all working at our own pace.
We also had a ton of fun on the playground today. We remembered that when we talked about snow angels Miss Kathleen told us that even though we probably wouldn't be able to make snow angels here in Savannah, we could do the same thing and make sand angels at the beach. Some of us decided to try it in our "sand pit" on the playground! Miss Kathleen had to get a quick picture before telling us we couldn't do that in our school clothes!
