Wednesday, January 30

We started our day with our helper leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Salute the Flag.  We did a great job reciting and singing.

At our rug center we used our puppets and our LEGOS again.  There was quite a bit of cooperative building going on--and a lot of dramatic play!  At Mrs. Hennessy's center we made our February calendars.  It was a little bit messy, but we did some good work.  (Look for calendars in backpacks today!)  At Miss Kathleen's center we listened to a book on the computer (See below for more information on that.) and then we did some letter stamping.  Each of us had to find the letter our name starts with--some of us found all of our letters!

We went out on  the playground and had some fun with our friends, then washed up and had snack.  We enjoyed lining our animal crackers up as if they were in a parade!

***Computer books:  Scholastic books has a new feature called eStoria which features ebooks for kids.  I downloaded it last month and tried it out over Christmas break.  There are several different ways to use the books, including little games and puzzles embedded in the story a la LeapPad.  I wanted to gauge the kids response to the program before I sent home our next book order.  We listened to the story, Clifford's Good Deeds, read by Clifford's owner, Emily Elizabeth.  The children really seemed to enjoy hearing a book read in a different way than we usually do it.  If any of you have used any of the eStoria books at home, I'd be interested in your opinion of them.

Monday, January 28

We noticed something interesting today.  Several of our friends had on similar stripes.  This led to a great conversation about colors and classification because we did have other stripes around our classroom!

At our rug center we had our puppets and our Legos.  Miss Kathleen didn't put out the puppet theater, but one group used our chalkboard as a stand-in.  If you look closely you can see the shark puppet sticking out through the easel!

At Mrs. Hennessy's center we played the Maisy Game where we took turns spinning the spinner and then finding the matching items for our gameboard.  When we finished, we used our noodle builders to create!

At Miss Kathleen's center, we read a Clifford magazine and practiced counting by putting buttons on some snowmen.  (This was a great assessment of pointing and counting!)  We also chanted a snowman song.  (See below.)

We thought we were going to have music with Miss Megan today, but we ran out of time.  We decided to hide like turtles in their shells while we waited to see if Miss Megan was coming.

Five Little Snowmen

There were five little snowmen standing in row (Hold up five fingers.)
Each with a hat and a carrot nose (Put hand on head, then on nose.)
The sun came out and stayed all day (Move arms up and over head.)
One little snowman melted away.  (Put down one finger and...)

There were four little snowmen standing in a row....

Continue until they all melt away!

Pajama Day!

We had so much fun today!  We popped our popcorn and packed up our stuff to take over to Fellowship Hall for a movie with our friends.  First Miss Megan cam in for our music class and we danced and sang and jumped out our wiggles.

Wednesday, January 23

We had lots of interesting conversations going on at our rug center today.  There was a lot of teamwork at the dollhouse as we took on different roles (and voices!) with our dolls.  We also had some "teachers" at the chalkboard.

Miss LouLou was substituting for Mrs. Hennessy today and we showed her all the cool snow things we make with our snowdoh.   Today we even added some sparkly glitter to it!

We practiced some of our shapes at Miss Kathleen's center, then we did some writing.

Next it was time for the playground. There wasn't much humidity in the air--as you can see by the way our hair was standing up.  Some of us had a lot of fun standing by the slides with our friends and watching our hair go up!

Friday, January 18

Our Fridays are always silly because we go outside right away.  We love having the playground all to ourselves!

After we came inside we had Music with Miss Megan, ate our special healthy snack (yogurt shakes, pretzels, and panda cookies from China!), and then got ready for our centers.  We had a special helper at our rug center today.  Miss Charlotte came to build with us!  We had fun!

At Mrs. Hennessy's center we made some beautiful beaded snowflakes.  This also helped us work our finger muscles and our fine motor skills.

We worked on writing with Miss Kathleen.  We practiced writing our name then we wrote "notes" and "letters" and even did some art projects.  Then we put everything in a plastic baggie to bring home!
