As you can see, puzzles are still a big part of our morning work.  We still like some of our small puzzles, but more and more, we're moving toward teamwork on the 20+ piece puzzles.  This morning we also worked with our colored cubes, our Mr. Potato Heads, and some coloring/cutting.

We had a really messy center today!  We dipped pieces of yarn into glue, made sure we got them all gooey and gluey, and then laid them out on a wax paper heart.  Then we washed our hands!  At our rug center we played with our Little People and Little Pony toys, which we always enjoy.  At Mrs. Hennessey's center, some of us played with our rice bin while others played Candyland.

Today was also the first day in a long time that we got to go outside for a real playground time.  We did everything!  Some of us played firemen and rescued our friends who were stuck on a boat in the ocean.  Some of us rode bikes and horses and seesaws, and some of us just ran around!

It took all of us a while to get in this morning, so we had some extra time at our morning work.  Some of us played with Mr. Potato Heads and building spiders, some of us drew and colored, and some of us worked puzzles.  After we cleaned up we did our calendar and got ready for centers.

In Miss Kathleen's center we worked with stamps, making pictures and patterns.  Some of us also played Candyland at this center, but most of us wanted to stamp the whole time.  In Miss Hennessey's center we started working on our February calendars.  We mixed and matched heart shapes and stickers and some lace doilies to get our calendars ready to bring home on Wednesday.  At our rug center we played with our Little People sets and our Little Pony castle.  Our morning really went by quickly!

It's always exciting when we finish one of our "big" puzzles.

Mr. Potato Head is one of our favorites at morning work.

It seemed as if we had been away from school forever!  After our morning work and our calendar, we said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang Salute the Flag.  We also practiced counting to ten in Spanish today.  Some of us already knew some of the Spanish number words, so it was just a review for us!

In centers today we practiced cutting on lines (and repositioning our scissors for easier cutting!) and made magic crayon snowflakes with Miss Kathleen.  We used our tracers and some big kid pencils with Miss Hennessey--or we traced name cards with markers if we got tired of our tracer shapes.  On the rug, we had some of our Little People toys out and some new My Little Pony sets.  We really liked them!

It was kind of cold and damp so we couldn't really go outside to play.  Instead we took a walk around the Memorial Gardens and saw some Spanish moss, some red berries on the holly trees, some woodpeckers, and a blue jay.  Then we went to see if the playground was wet.  There were so many puddles we only found one dry place to sit down--the covered bench!  We were ready to come back into our nice dry room and have snack after that!

Friday, January 14

Even though we were wearing our pajamas, we still came in and did a little bit of morning work.  In addition to our regular puzzles and our art table, we also had a floor puzzle that had really big pieces.  At our manipulative table, we had our building spiders and something new--Mr. Potato Heads!

We did some quick centers before going over for our movie.  We decorated our popcorn bags and then plugged in our air popper, counting and listening to hear the first pops.  We also made some "snowballs" by scrunching up newspaper into balls.  We put these into white trashbags and then Miss Kathleen stacked them up to make a snowman.  We added a hat, scarf, eyes, and a nose to make an indoor snowman for our classroom.

Finally it was time to go over to Fellowship Hall for our movie!  We had a lot of fun there!  We ate our popcorn, talked to our friends, napped in our sleeping bags, and even watched the movie!
