During our Morning Circle, we looked at some nature items. We passed around some pine needles and a pine cone that Miss Kathleen took off a branch from a pine tree; and then we looked at some oak leaves and acorns from a branch of an oak tree. When we walked out to the playground later in the morning, we found a pine tree and an oak tree in the garden and took some time to stand underneath them. We looked up to try and see the pine needles, pine cones, oak leaves and acorns while they were on the tree.
We also passed around a really cool leaf with some monarch eggs, a caterpillar, a chrysalis, and a monarch butterfly. These were made of plastic, but they looked just like the ones we had in our butterfly house last month. There was a lot of nature talk and sharing during our Morning Circle time today!
At Mrs. Hennessy's center we continued talking about nature and plants. First we rolled up some tissue paper peas, then we practiced counting them and put them in our pea pods. Finally we got to taste some sugar snap peas. We opened them to see what the peas looked like inside--some of us counted those too!
We had a book center with Miss Kathleen. We looked at our new carton of books (I Spy) and practiced using them. We also listened to If You Give A Cat A Cookie at our listening center. We tried to keep up with turning the pages while we listened. We'll keep working on this skill!
At our rug center we continued to play with our garage/car ramp. We had some different cars out today and we compared the speeds and distances that they traveled down the ramps. There was a lot of talk about how far and how fast cars could go!
