We had a nice long Morning Circle today.  Our helper held the flag really high while we all said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang Salute the Flag.  We also practiced some of our Halloween songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Stirring the Brew and Pumpkin, Pumpkin.

Would you like to hear Salute the Flag and Stirring the Brew performed by a previous class?
I've included the words below if you'd like to sing these at home with your child.  I''ll see if I can find the tunes for the other songs and add them to our blog.

We had some exciting centers today.  We played with our fire trucks for the last day and built with our big LEGOS at the rug center.  At Miss Paula's center we rolled play-doh apples in different colors and counted them out on our trees.  Some of us also did some Halloween lacing cards.  At Miss Kathleen's center we made a pumpkin out of glue and yarn.  We painted our wax paper pumpkins with glue, then added yarn pieces one at a time.  When we finished we played with our fall squishy bags.

We were happy it didn't rain so we got to go to the playground.  We had a lot of fun.  Some of us took turns showing the little babies (AKA the 2s!) the things we liked to play on the playground!

Here are the words to some of the songs we're singing in our classroom this month.

Salute the Flag
Salute the flag,
The grand old flag
With colors red, white and blue
It stands for truth and liberty
This flag is waving for you!
Salute!

Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sum and dried up all the rain
and the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again

Stirring the Brew
Stirring and stirring and stirring our brew (Pretend to stir something in a big pot).
WHOOO-OO, WHOO-OO (Put hands near mouth and wiggle fingers)
Repeat
Tip-toe, tip-toe, tip-toe—BOO! (With each tip-toe sing lower and use your fingers to tip-toe in the air, until BOO where you then close and open your hands next to your face, saying BOO loud!)

Pumpkin, Pumpkin Round and Fat
Pumpkin, pumpkin, round and fat
Turns into a jack-o-lantern just like that
Repeat 2Xs

Johnny Appleseed Blessing
The Lord is good to me and so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need
The sun and the rain and the apple seed
The Lord is good to me

Five Little Witches
There were five little witches flying in the air, flying in the air, flying in the air.
There were five little witches flying in the air
For this is Halloween!
There were four little skeletons jumping up & down...
There were three little ghosts that were staring everywhere...
There were two little goblins saying “Trick or Treat!”...
There was one little pumpkin swinging on a gate...
