We welcomed a new friend to class today--and it turns out that she had a twin in her choice of shirts.  They posed for a picture to show you!

We started our morning work as soon as we came in from carpool.  As you can see we had some friends working at puzzles, some coloring, others moving around our pompoms, and a few working with manipulatives.

We got busy at our centers quickly because even though it was a rainy day, we had lots to do!  At Miss Kathleen's center we worked with letters.  We used some hand punches to punch out our names and other "words" that we wanted to spell.  This was also good practice in making our hand and finger muscles stronger.  At Mrs. Hennessy's center, we did some fine motor work with our tracing.  Many of us used the letters stencils to write our names.  When we finished we worked at the lightbox.  We had some new transparent shapes to stack and combine.  We had dramatic play up on the rug today.  We had the baby dolls out and it was a lot of fun to try on their different clothes.

Because we couldn't go out on the playground in the rain, we did a special indoor project.  We decorated some little cookies, baked them, and had them for a treat!  They were delicious and a nice way to finish off our salty snack of crackers!

Donuts with Daddies

We had so much fun celebrating with our guests!

Wednesday, February 22

We got right back into the swing of things after our long weekend.  We had some new manipulatives at one of our morning work tables.  We loved popping the bubbles in big bubble wrap--and using our tweezers to pick up pom-poms and move them around.  We also had a new 24-piece puzzle that we put together right away!

At our centers today, we worked on making hats for Friday's Donuts with Daddies, coloring umbrella shapes with markers (and then dripping "rain" on them), and dramatic play up on the rug.  If you click on the link below, you'll see another one of our rock star performances!

We had a new puzzle today that was so big we needed to put it together on the rug!  As you can see from the photos, we used a lot of teamwork to complete it.  We worked on strategies to match up pieces and to use the picture on the box to figure out what comes next.

At centers today we used our ever-stronger fingers and hands to make crayon shavings with our sharpeners and then Miss Kathleen used a warm iron to magically melt them.  We'll turn them into butterflies and dragonflies for next week.  Mrs. Hennessy helped us with our special gifts for next week's Donuts with Daddy day.  We think our dads are going to love them!  At our rug center we used our kitchen/dress-up box and some guitars.  If you look at the clips below, you'll see our impromptu rock band performance!  (At the end of one, you'll hear the request for drums and cymbals for next time.  I can't imagine what the noise level in our classroom would be like with those added into the mix--but we might have to find out next week!)

To finish off our exciting  morning we enjoyed the healthy snack that Emma Blu brought in for us.  Cheese cubes and apple slices!  They were delicious!

A Special Message For Our Dads

The invitation made by your child will be coming home in the backpack tomorrow, but here's a sneak preview!  (Please note that the time has been changed to 8:30-9:00 rather than the 8:45-9:15 on our monthly calendar.)

Wednesday, February 15

Despite the weather outside, we had a bright day inside.  In addition to building some long ladders on the rug and using some new tile picture makers, we welcomed back the newest big sister in our class, Lilyonna!

After we did our calendar, Miss Kathleen showed us some of the books in our new crate.  All of these books are about bugs--and they're marked with the letter B.  Then we saw some monarch caterpillars in the garden.  We learned that the big one will make a cocoon or chrysalis soon and then become a butterfly.  When we lined up for our bathroom break, we fluttered and flew down the hallway--just like butterflies!

At center time, we had some of our kitchen and picnic toys out on the rug, along with some of our dress up clothes.  Mrs. Hennessy helped us with our Donuts with Dad invitations at another center.  (Look for these to come home on Friday.)  At our last center we made patterns with wooden beads and laced some train pictures.
