Valentine's Day Party

We started our day off with a conga line!  Some of us were hiding behind Mrs. Hennessy, trying to trick her, when she asked us if we thought we could follow her in a quiet, sneaky snake line.  As you can see, we did a great job of it!

We had some getting ready to do for our Valentine's party, so at one of our centers we played post office.  Everyone put our Valentine mailboxes on the table and when it was our turn at that center we delivered our Valentine cards to our friends' mailboxes.   Mrs. Hennessy was there to help us if we had any trouble with our friends' names.

We did some science activities at Miss Kathleen's center.  We started out with some candy hearts that we sorted.  We matched our colors and counted, then we got to eat them.  After that we had a choice of the light table or our magnet bars/jars.

It was our last day to play with our Little People tubs at the rug center.  We made sure to get every single item out of our tubs today.  But we also did a great job of cleaning up afterward.

After cleaning up, taking a bathroom break, and dancing to a few Valentine songs, it was time for our party! We had delicious treats--and lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who came to join us.

Friday, February 10

We had some new activities--and some old favorites--at our morning work tables today.  Some of us used our magnet bars to explore our magnet jars (plastic jars/bottles filled with pipe cleaner bits or iron filings) while others worked our finger muscles by popping bubble wrap squares.  We've also gotten creative at our coloring/cutting/taping table.  Today we had masks, puppets, and Valentine cards ready to go before our 9:15 clean-up time.

One of the reasons we love Fridays is because Miss Caitlin comes for music.  Today we sang a Valentine song, H-E-A-R-T, to the tune of B-I-N-G-O and danced with streamers.  If you click on the links below the picture, you can see and hear us!

Before we had center we enjoyed the healthy snack that Brooke brought in to share.  We had yoghurt, strawberries, and blueberries!  We ate every bit!

At centers today, we worked on a Valentine gift for our parents with Mrs. Hennessy--here are a couple of sneak peek photos!  As each of us finished, we went to play in our Valentine sensory tub.  In addition to the popcorn (that we know we cannot put in our mouths!) there are hearts, red beans, rose petals, and Valentine erasers hidden in there.

We had a new toy to play with at Miss Kathleen's center.  We used beads and necklaces to create designs at a light table.  We loved the way the colors changed when we stacked the beads--and the cool patterns we could make.

At our last center we had our Little People tubs out on the rug.  If we didn't want to play with our Little People, we also had the choice of one of the games at our game table.

Monday, February 6

We had a little bit of independent morning work this morning.  Some of our girls decided to play some shoe games.  They sat in a circle, took off all of their shoes and took turns trying on their friends footwear.  Then they put them all in the middle and had to see how fast they could find the right pair and get them on.

At centers today we had our Little People tubs up on the rug again.  We also played with Moon Sand with Mrs. Hennessy.  It was a little messy, but a lot of fun.  We painted Valentine hearts with toilet paper rolls at Miss Kathleen's center.  We even decorated some of them with feathers when we finished!

Wednesday, February 1

We've continued to make tape available with our writing utensils and scissors.  Some of the children have mastered the pulling and tearing of the tape while others are still working on these skills.  Most of them love tape!  Seeing the creativity that 3 for $1 rolls of tape engender makes me think that another trip to the Dollar Store should be on my list soon!

Our centers today were so busy that we don't have any other pictures from then to share.  But we do have a few from our special snack today!  We sang "Happy Birthday" to Brooke and then enjoyed a special birthday treat!
