Monday, October 10

We were so busy today that Miss Kathleen forgot to get her camera out! Rainy days will do that sometimes. After our morning work we came up to the rug; talked about our calendar; sang a song about Johnny Appleseed; said our Pledge of Allegiance: and sang Salute the Flag. Then we took a bathroom break and came back for centers.

At our rug center we played with our construction set and our dollhouse. It's the first time we've had these out and we had a lot of fun with them. Our center with Mrs. Hennessy was messy! We made paintings with apples! We used an apple half along with red, green and yellow paint to make some beautiful designs. Miss Kathleen let us play with tangrams at her center while she asked some of us to find our names on the tables and tell her about colors and shapes.

Because it was raining we couldn't go outside so we watched a video about Johnny Appleseed. Did you know he wore a pot on his head as a hat? That was one of our favorite parts! Here's the Johnny Appleseed song that we sang today if you want to sing it at home.

Friday, October 7

Our Friday was so exciting! We started out practicing the Pledge of Allegiance and Salute the Flag; then had some outside time; came in and had music with Miss Caitlin; then worked on making our shirts for our pumpkin patch field trip (and having centers.) But we weren't finished yet! We still had a special treat with our birthday girl. As you can see, we especially liked the frosting!

Wednesday, October 5

Our tangrams continue to prove popular at our morning work tables. This morning we also had some new puzzles out today. Our last morning picture shows a "game" that some of us have been playing the last few mornings. We'll put our bookbags in a friend's cubby and then see if our friends can help us find our own name on our cubby. (It's really funny to see how many giggles this simple game causes!)

We've started reading some books for Fire Prevention month, so at one of our centers we played with our fire/rescue station. At another center we put black spots on our dalmatians, also known as the firehouse dog. We're still using our puppets on our rug center--and on Friday, we'll have a puppet theater to use with them!

Monday, October 3

We had something brand new out at our tables for morning work today: tangrams. We were fascinated by them! We stacked them, sorted them, compared them, and talked about the various colors and shapes. We used words like square, diamond, trapezoid, and hexagon! They were such a hit at our morning table that Miss Kathleen decided to switch one of today's centers to give us more time to interact with tangrams. Here we are at our tangram center. Some of us completed tangram pictures by following the patterns on the tangram cards. We continued to practice our geometry words and counted how many of each shape we were using.

At our rug center we had our puppets and our castle blocks out to play with. If you look closely you can see that the shark puppet has one of the people puppets in its mouth! One of the rules at this center is that we have to be nice to our friends and their puppets. As George explained, "It's OK. This one isn't a friend!"

Here we explored our sensory tub filled with oatmeal. We made a little bit of a mess, but we had a lot of fun scooping, measuring, pouring, and comparing. We also spent some time searching for things buried in the oatmeal: We found acorns, glass beads, tiny pumpkins and lots more.

Friday, September 30

We had some fun choices for our morning work today. Some of us worked at the puzzle table; some colored and cut; and others built cube towers/patterns and used our felt board. Right after our morning work and bathroom break, we went outside to play. We have a silly schedule on Friday because Miss Caitlin comes to do music.

Miss Caitlin did a lot of fun songs with us today. We practiced singing BINGO (B-I-N-G-O and Bingo was his name oh!) and using our sticks instead of clapping. After we said goodbye to Miss Caitlin, we went to our centers. At Miss Kathleen's center we used art tape to make some cool collages. We had to wet the pieces of tape on our sponge and then put them on our paper. With Miss Hennessy we did beading/patterns and practiced lacing. Some of us are really good at making three-color patterns! We had some new toys on our rug center today. There were two different kinds of puppets and some castle blocks. There was a lot of role playing going on up on the rug!
