We spent a little more time at our Morning Work today.  We did a lot of building!

We cleaned up our Morning Work, then came up on the rug for Circle Time.  We counted the days on the calendar, said the Pledge of Allegiance while our helper held the flag, and sang Salute the Flag

After a bathroom break, we came back and started our centers.  At Miss Kathleen's center, we had to use our I-Spy eyes to search for gingerbread men and then color them in.  After we found and counted all ten of them, we worked our finger muscles and peeled stickers to make bookmarks and pictures.  At Miss Paula's center we worked with geoboards. This was another chance to work our finger muscles by stretching rubber-bands to make pictures and designs.  We also talked a lot about shapes and colors.  At the rug center we played with Jake and the Neverland Pirates for one more day.  We also had the baby dolls out for the first time!

Friday, September 9

We're working on coming in and coloring a picture (with our name on it) right after we arrive at the classroom and hang up our backpacks.  After we finish coloring, we put our pictures in our cubbies and choose something else to do until all of our friends arrive.

After we cleaned up our Morning Work and had a bathroom break we went out to the playground.  It was a little warm, but we had fun!  Some of us acted out the story we've been reading and telling in class about the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Back in the classroom it was time for centers.  At Miss Kathleen's center we painted with red and yellow paint.  We found out that when you mixed them, you got orange!  At the rug center we had another day of  dramatic play with our Jake and the Neverland Pirates LEGOS.  At Miss Paula's center we practiced cutting PlayDoh with scissors.  Next week we'll start using scissors with paper at our centers. While we waited for our friends to finish, we built some cool structures with our striped foam blocks.

We cleaned up our centers, took another bathroom break and had our snack.  We put our Gingerbread and Fairytale books back in their crates and picked new ones, then sat on the rug to meet Miss Becca.  She came in to do our music class.  It was fun!

As we came in this morning, each of us colored a gingerbread man picture with our name on it.  (We try to do this each morning because it gives us a chance to monitor pencil grip, to encourage fine motor skills, and later to guide cutting skills.) After we finished we put the pictures in our cubbies and then went to work at the manipulative table, the rug, or the chalkboards.

After we cleaned up our Morning Work and had a bathroom break, we went out on the playground.  It was so much fun!  Mrs. Knudsen's class was out there with us so we had lots of friends to play with!  One of our favorite things to do today was running races!

When we came back inside, the classroom felt so cool and comfortable!  It was time for us to get started on centers.  At Miss Kathleen's center we worked our finger muscles by rolling and pressing and shaping gingerbread PlayDoh.  We also made gingerbread man hats!

At Miss Paula's center we made our placemats for September, then played with pegboards while we waited for our friends to finish.  At the rug center we played with Potato Heads and cars.  We practiced sharing with our friends--especially when we were playing cars!

We cleaned up our centers and went to the bathroom.  We all made sure we washed our hands because next it was snack time!  After snack we looked at Gingerbread or Fairy Tale books.  Some of us took a book home to share with our families.
