Morning Work: Coloring, cutting, manipulatives, magnetic letters, giant puzzles

Centers: Valentine's sensory bin, Donuts with Dads invitation, playing on the rug, and delivering Valentines!

Wednesday, February 10

We had an exciting start to our day!  Miss Amanda brought her macaw, Gossamer, to visit us! He was so cool!  We even heard him whisper "Thank you" when Miss Amanda gave him a pistachio.  We learned that macaws usually live in the rainforest and that they can live up to 80 years!  Gossamer even left us one of his feathers to examine.

It was too cold to go outside so we started centers early.  At Miss Kathleen's center we made a special Valentine card and learned how to say "I love you" in Spanish.  At Miss Paula's center we worked on a surprise for our daddies--and played in the Valentine sensory bin!  At our rug center, we had one more day of our dollhouse dramatic play and our cars/racetrack!  We loved it!

Monday, February 8

We worked on a long number puzzle today during Morning Work!  We practiced counting from one all the way through twenty.  We also used teamwork to put all the pieces together.

After we cleaned up from Morning Work we had Spanish with Senora Hillary.  We practiced a lot of our Spanish words, including por favor, gracias, de nada, and silencio!  We also learned rapido (fast) and despacio (slow) today.

  After a break outside in the beautiful weather, we came back in for centers. We worked a lot on fine motor skills today.  At Miss Kathleen's center, we practiced our grip and traced 10 hearts.  When we finished we played with penguin finger puppets in snow/shaving cream. At Miss Paula's center we carefully picked up pieces of tissue paper and put them on a contact paper heart.  It took a lot of concentration! While we waited for our friends to finish we played in the Valentine's Day sensory bin.  We had our last day of the the big bricks at the rug center--and the next to the last day with our dollhouse. We wonder what our next rug centers will be?

Friday, February 5

We were a little bit silly today.  When we realized that it was Friday, February 5, we practiced saying a lot of words (including our names!) with a beginning F sound.  After we came in from a little time on the playground, we started centers.

At Miss Kathleen's center we wrote and drew with pencils and markers.  We practiced writing "I love you" and our names.  At our rug center we had another day with our cardboard bricks and dollhouse.  It's time for new rug centers, but we're having so much fun with these, Miss Kathleen said she would leave them for a couple more days.  At Miss Paula's center we stamped hearts with squeezed-up paper towel rolls.  While we were waiting our turns, we played in the Valentine sensory bin.  We found lots of hearts in there!

We were all very quiet during snack time.  We had a delicious healthy snack of popcorn and peanut butter/apple sandwiches.  We thought those sandwiches were so cool!

Wednesday, February 3

We had a lot of fun at Morning Work today!  We used our silly scissors for cutting; popped bubblewrap to strengthen our finger muscles; made designs with our tiles; and finished our giant Frozen puzzle.  We also had our lightbox out with Valentine designs and we built a LONG railroad track with our ladders.

We went outside to enjoy the warm weather and got to play with some friends from Mrs. Knudsen's class.  We think the groundhog was right about an early spring!  Before we went in we released one of the monarch butterflies that emerged from its chrysalis this morning.  We're glad it was warm enough for the flowers to be open so it could eat.

We came back in and started centers right away.  At Miss Kathleen's center we read a Clifford magazine about Valentine's Day.  We learned that "I ♥ you" says "I love you" and practiced reading left-to-right on some of the pictures.  We also used our I-Spy eyes to find lots of objects and letters.  At the rug center we had models of all of the stages of a monarch butterfly on our table to explore, our giant bricks to build with, and our dollhouse for dramatic play.  Miss Paula helped us make our bags for our Valentine's party next week.  They are beautiful! 

We had a special sweet snack today--rainbow sherbet!  We loved it!  It was so quiet during snack time because we were all busy eating!

Monday, February 1

We started our day with Senora Hillary.  Today we learned some new phrases for different kinds of weather.  Today we said "Hace sol" and "Hace calor" because it was sunny and hot.

At Miss Kathleen's center today we painted with paint ice cubes.  We'll bring these home on Wednesday when they're dry.  At Miss Paula's center we had our last day with our snow sensory bin.  Miss Paula also helped us finish our groundhog hats.  We continued building and playing with our cardboard bricks and dollhouse at our rug center.  We'll have those for a couple more days.

As we lined up for carpool, we all put our groundhog hats on for a picture.  We'll be waiting to see whether or not the groundhog she his shadow tomorrow!
