Wednesday, September 9

We opened our house today in the classroom and a lot of us spent some time trying it out!  We also had some new manipulatives out on the table and the rug for Morning Work.  We built some long lines and tall towers of unifix cubes!

We had a great time on the playground today.  We spent some time playing hide-and-seek on the playground.  Our favorite place to hide was under the sliding board!  We also ran around and got really hot--then we sat down to cool off with Miss Paula!

At our rug center today we played with our Jake and the Neverland Pirates LEGOS and our baby dolls.  At Miss Paula's center we practiced our cutting and gluing by making flower collages.  At Miss Kathleen's center we painted with paint brushes!

Before we lined up to go home, we sang our Days of the Week song, Fandagumbo, Jesus Loves Me, and Salute the Flag!

Days of the Week (to the tune of the Addams' Family)
Days of the week (clap, clap)
Days of the week (clap, clap)
Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (clap, clap)
There's Sunday and there's Monday
There's Tuesday and there's Wednesday
There's Thursday and there's Friday
And then there's Saturday!
(Repeat)

Fandagumbo
by Julie Austin

Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong.
They are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me
For the Bible tells me so.

Salute the Flag
Salute the flag, the grand old flag
With colors red, white, and blue.
It stands for truth and liberty.
This flag is waving for you!
Salute!

Wednesday, September 2

Whew!  What a busy day!  We started off with hanging up our backpacks and doing our Morning Work.

Today we finally got to go out on the playground!  We talked about our three rules and practiced lining up when Miss Kathleen blew her whistle--then we went outside and played!

When we came inside and cooled off , it was time for centers.  This week we're spending some time learning to use the materials in our classroom.  At Miss Paula's center today we practiced using glue pots to make some cool pictures.  At Miss Kathleen's center we learned the rules for using scissors and then practiced cutting paper into pieces. We even got to bring home our cuttings in ziploc bags!  At our rug center we had one more day to play with Potato Heads and big LEGOS.  We'll have a new rug center on Friday.
