Friday, October 11

Fridays are fun!  We go outside right away and usually have the playground to ourselves.  This really helps us build community within our class.

We had music with Miss Jenna when we came back inside.  We really loved the new train song we learned!  Then it was time for centers.  We played with our pirates and fire station at our rug center.  At Miss Paula's center we played with fire house LEGOS and bristle blocks while Miss Paula helped us paint our t-shirts for the Pumpkin Patch field trip.  At Miss Kathleen's center we counted and sorted pom-pom apples and played with our Potato Heads.

At the end of the day we practiced our Halloween songs for our Summer Breeze trick-or-treat excursion.  Then we looked at all of our pirate books and tried on our pirate hats.  AAARRGGG!

Wednesday, October 9

It was good to be back to school today.  We talked a lot about the change in the weather and how it felt so cool this morning.  Some of us even used the word COLD to describe the temperature!  At our Morning Circle where we learned how tricky the numbers 6 and 9 could be (We spent a few minutes turning our 6 and 9 upside down and comparing.)

At our rug center we had our fire trucks on the blue gingerbread rug and our pirate ship and pirate puppets in the "ocean" that we made from our big brown tub.  We had a lot of fun at both!

At Miss Paula's center we worked like the big kids!  We used dry erase markers to trace the letters in our names and then we wrote/drew on our whiteboards.  We are working on name recognition, letters, and letter sounds in context.  This tracing is a great way to work on that as well as practice fine motor skills...Plus it's fun!  We even liked using old socks and washcloths to erase!

At Miss Kathleen's center, we worked at using glue bottles to put just a drop on our paper.  First we glued some leaves down to practice, then we glued googly eyes on our fire house dalmatians.  After we finished all of our gluing, we played for a little while with our new potato heads.  We especially liked the Pirate Potato Head!

At snack time we sang "Happy Birthday" to our special birthday friend.  Then we enjoyed a special birthday treat.  We love birthdays!

Friday, October 4

We love Fridays!  We go outside the very first thing and we have the playground all to ourselves.  Then we come inside and have music with Miss Jenna.  This week we added rhythm sticks to our class!  You can check out our performance at the link below.

Next it was time for centers!  At our rug center we had animal finger puppets and pirates!  We loved this!

At Miss Paula's center, it was all about acorns!  We spooned and sorted acorns while we waited for a turn to do some fancy acorn painting.  We squirted yellow and orange paint onto a piece of paper that Miss Paula then put in a coffee can.  Next it was time to add an acorn--and SHAKE!!!

At Miss Kathleen's center, we had our first fire safety center.  We took turn playing with our fire station center and putting spots on our fire house dogs.  (We read Firefighters by Norma Simon at our Morning Circle time.)

For our snack we had delicious apple slices and cheese cubes that our Healthy Snack Friend brought in.  They were delicious!

Wednesday, October 2

We had a silly day today because of pictures!  We had our centers right away--before we even did calendar!

At Miss Kathleen's center we played with our farm set and built with crystal climbers.  Not only did we make some cool creations, we also practiced fine motor skills when we lined up the slots!

At  Miss Paula's center we worked in our "garden" again.  We had some new fall leaves, acorns, and tiny pumpkins in there today.

At our rug center, we had one more day with our puppet theater, castle blocks, and Noah's Ark set.  (Although there's been so much positive interaction with our puppet theater, that I think I might leave it out and just switch out for a new set of puppets!  It's so much fun to watch the puppet shows--and the audience sitting with there puppets commenting on the show!)

Monday, September 30

Miss Lesley came in during our calendar time today and we counted all the way up to 30 for her!  We gave ourselves a pat on the back after this.

At Miss Kathleen's center we painted apples with pool noodle pieces.  It was a lot of fun.  We also tried to count as we added apples to our paper.  At Miss Paula's center we explored with acorns.  We scooped them up with spoons, took off their "hats" and put them back on, and sorted them into trays.  We later went for a walk to see if we could find any trees with acorns on their branches.  At our rug center we had our castle blocks and our puppets.  As you can see we set up our chairs in front of the puppet theater to watch the show!

After centers we went outside in the beautiful sunshine.  We ran and seesawed; found a fuzzy caterpillar crawling on the house; climbed on the playground caterpillar; and used our looking eyes to find our friends!
