Monday, August 31

We started off our day with Morning Work.  As we came into the classroom we hung up our backpacks then colored a picture.  Once we put our picture in our cubbies, we could build with LEGOS, write on the chalkboard, work with manipulatives, or color another picture!

After we cleaned up our Morning Work, we came up on the rug and listened to The Gingerbread Man. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, and sang Salute the Flag and Jesus Loves Me.  Then we all lined up and went down to the bathroom!

Next it was time for centers.  Each of us wore a colored necklace for our groups (turquoise, yellow, and purple) and took turns going to all three of today's centers.  It took a little while for us to get used to staying with our group, but we're learning!

At our rug center, we played with Potato Heads and big LEGOS.  At Miss Kathleen's center we colored a gingerbread man for our crown and a fancy one to take home.  At Miss Paula's center we practiced using glue pots to make our September placemats, then played with bristle blocks while our friends finished up.

We cleaned up all of our centers, the we took some pictures for our calendar.  Here you can see them all!

Finally it was time for snack!  We washed our hands then enjoyed some salty oyster crackers and some sweet Cheerios.  We picked a new book to take home and then it was time to line up!  What an exciting day!

First Day!

What a wonderful first day!  Everyone worked (and played) so well together!  Here are some glimpses of what went on during Day One!

Some of us built with big LEGOS and stacking pins during Morning Work..

Some of us colored pictures.

Some of us worked with magnets AND drew on the chalkboard!

Then we all came up on the rug to say the Pledge of Allegiance, sing Salute the Flag, and practice our Days of the Week song.  We also read The Gingerbread Man and chanted,
"Run, run
As fast as you can
You can't catch me
"Cause I'm the gingerbread man!"

Next it was time for our bathroom break.  We lined up in two straight lines and walked down the hall--just like big kids!  Miss Paula helped the girls while Miss Kathleen helped the boys.  We practiced washing our hands with one squirt of soap and two paper towels--and waiting quietly for our friends to finish.

When we came back we went to centers.  We just had two centers today: our rug center where we played with Potato Heads and our table center where we worked on our September calendars.

Finally it was time for our snack!  We had sweet Cheerios and salty oyster crackers.  After we cleaned up, we each chose a book to take home and read.  We'll bring these back on Monday and choose a new one then!  We can't wait!

We're Almost Ready!
