Wednesday, January 25

We were hard workers at centers today!  At Miss Kathleen's table we had our writing center.  We used all different kinds of paper and writing utensils to trace, draw, and write.  Some of us worked on the letters of our names, some of us made cards, and some of us wrote notes to each other!

At our rug center, we had our GI Joes and Barbies again, along with our big blocks.  We did a great job of sharing and working together, especially when we were building tall towers with our big blocks.

At Mrs. Hennessy's table we worked on our February calendars.  We used heart shapes and doilies and foam stickers and lots of glue!  They looked beautiful when we finished.  Look for them in our backpacks on Friday.

After our centers we went outside to play with our friends. Then we came in and washed up for snack. Alexandra brought us a delicious healthy snack today. We had bowls of edamame! Not only was it fun to eat, it tasted great. We heard a lot of our friends say they were going to ask their mommies to get them some for snack at home. (This really was a big hit. Fourteen out of fifteen of our students asked for seconds!)

Monday, January 23

We had a great welcome back Monday!  At our rug center, we had our Barbies/G.I.Joes for dramatic play and fine motor skills.  (Those little tabs and velcro closings are great manipulative practice.)  We also had a set of our giant blocks for building.

At Miss Kathleen's center we played games.  We learned the rules for Candyland and Animal Lotto and practiced playing.  It was fun--and good practice in following directions and taking turns.

At Mrs. Hennessy's center, we covered the table with shaving cream!  It was so much fun--and so messy!  We painted pictures, made letters and words, and helped get the table nice and clean!

Pajama Day!

Wednesday, January 11

We added some tape to our coloring/cutting morning work table today.  We had some interesting creations including chains, snowflakes and airplanes!

At centers today we did some snow paintings with Miss Kathleen.  We used a snowman stencil at the easel and then switched to the table for some snowy Q-tip painting.

At Mrs. Hennessy's center, we showed her our writing skills.  We used chalkboards, markers, and big-kid pencils and wrote/drew on all different kinds of materials.

At our rug center we had our dollhouse and our puppet theater.  We had lots of different characters to use in acting out stories with our friends.

We enjoyed a delicious healthy snack today from Ansley.  The applesauce pouches were a big hit as you can see in the pictures below!

Monday, January 9

We had two silly upside-down switches during our calendar time today.  When we counted and turned over the number 9 for our date, our helper kept flipping it upside down and back again to turn it into a 6 and then back to a 9.  Then we read a book about a snowman from our Winter box of books and asked Miss Kathleen to turn it upside down so the W on the back turned into an M.  We had a lot of fun switching!

We're working on our Winter Unit right now, so you'll be seeing lots of snowmen, snowflakes, winter books (marked with a W on the back), and penguins!  These are the snowmen that we made on Friday that are hanging up in the room.

In our centers today we played with our small blocks and our puppets in the dollhouse at our rug center.  We had lots of puppet friends visiting one another in that dollhouse!  At Mrs. Hennessy's center we made snowmen.  Since we didn't have any snowballs, we used cotton balls instead!  Miss Kathleen helped us at the writing center.  We took turns using the chalkboards and the markers.  All of us practiced at least some of the letters in our names.

After we finished our centers we went out to the playground to enjoy the beautiful weather.  Some of us decided to put on a show.  We climbed on top of the boat and used it as our stage.  We even had some of the 2s stop by for a look at our singing and dancing!

Friday, January 6

During the second half of the year we work a lot with environmental print and increasing our letter/word recognition and production.  We'll be using our word wall each week to introduce new words (pictures with labels) to our vocabulary.  As you can see in these photos, there was a bit of interest and excitement at the first words posted--our names!

We also had music with Miss Caitlin today before our centers.  We liked using our instruments, but we enjoyed singing and acting out "Going on a Bear Hunt" most of all!

Wednesday, January 4th

Welcome back!  We came back to a very cold Wednesday.  That meant that we had plenty of practice bundling up and unbundling!  (We always allow a little extra time on cold days to give the children the opportunity to try to, as they tell us, "Do it by myself!")

We did some winter work at centers.  We made our January calendars with Mrs. Hennessy and our January placemats with Miss Kathleen.  We also had a good time playing with puppets at our rug center.

We had a special snack today to celebrate Emma Blue's birthday.  The cupcakes were delicious!

We liked the cold, but we won't mind if it warms up by Friday!
