Donuts with Dads!

We all had a wonderful time at Doughnuts with Dads.  After our guests left, we had some tired children who decided they would rather nap than play!

Wednesday, February 16

We had a completely backward day today!  As soon as we cleaned up our morning work, we had snack!  Then we put our coats on and went outside in the beautiful weather.  When we came in, it was time for centers.  We worked on our Donuts With Daddy invitations with Mrs. Hennessy, then did some stamping.  At our rug center we played with our dollhouse, pirates, and finger puppets.  We did some pumpkin science at Miss Kathleen's center, even going outside to look at our pumpkins that were decaying in the garden.

Since it was a backward day, the last thing we did was our calendar work, Pledge of Allegiance, and our "Salute the Flag" song.  We picked our books to take home just before we packed up for car pool.  It was fun having a backwards day!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Friday, February 10

We were all ready for our morning work as soon as we came in to the room.  Some of us didn't even take our coats off first!  We especially liked some of the new scraps in our cutting basket!

After cleaning up our morning work, we did our calendar, said the Pledge of Allegiance, and sang "Salute the Flag" before taking a bathroom break.  We came back and started our centers right away so we would have sometime to go outside.  We worked on geoboards with Mrs. Hennessy; did some cutting and pasting with Miss Kathleen; and played with our pirates, castle blocks, and doll house up on the rug.

When we came in from outside we had music with Miss Caitlin.  We sang Happy Birthday to our 3 birthday boys (https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/8myGBI4QCW7ZUDFy6qEicGDenxmP95iCM-kDm9HJmgg?feat=directlink) and some Valentine songs (https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0xDRUo8DBsec1WIad5xhpmDenxmP95iCM-kDm9HJmgg?feat=directlink) including "Do You Know My Valentine?"  Then it was time to have a special treat for our birthday boys!

After most of us had finished our snack, most of the girls came up on the rug with the magic wands that were in their birthday goodie bags.  While we were waiting for our story, there was an island-wide power failure.  We tried to use our magic wands to make the lights come back on...Sure enough, just as we finished saying for the fifth time, "Abracadabra, lights come back on!"  They came on!  We decided that maybe our wands really were magic!

Wednesday, February 9

After we cleaned up our morning work and did our calendar, we started our centers.   We still had our pirates and our castle blocks, but we added our dollhouse to our rug center.  We worked on some Valentine surprises at our other centers--and we got to do some painting on our easels!

Monday, February 7

We worked on a Valentine's project at Miss Kathleen's center.

Then we did some pirate colorforms.
When we finished, we wiped the table clean.

We played with pirates and castle blocks on the rug.

We had fun with the pirate finger puppets.

We used moon sand at Mrs. Hennessy's center.
We also did some Valentine stamping with Mrs. Hennessy.

Wednesday, February 2

We had a new box of books to explore when we came in this morning--and a lot of us did just that.  We got a book from our new crate of Mickey Mouse books that are marked with an M and sat down on the rug to read.  (This is our procedure each day as we finish snack:  Get a book and go sit on a shape on the rug until everyone has finished.  I've never actually given this direction in the morning, but they do like a routine!)  We also had some groundhog pictures to color and some of us chose to do that.

At Miss Kathleen's center we did some work in our journals and then we painted.  At Miss Hennessey's center we stuck tissue paper pieces onto contact paper hearts.  Some of us made patterns, but most of us just liked sticking on the tissue paper without having to worry about putting glue on the paper.  At our rug center we played with our Barbies, boxes, and big blocks again.  We especially had fun with the boxes today!

Monday, January 31

We were very busy when we came in this morning.  A lot of us decided to work at the puzzle table.  It's lucky that we've gotten so good at teamwork!

We got a headstart on Groundhog's Day during our centers today.  We made little groundhog stick puppets and then did some play-acting as we made them pop in and out of their holes, checking to see whether or not they saw their shadows.

With Mrs. Hennessey we made our February placemats.  We decorated them with all kinds of heart cut-outs and stickers and then put a big (capital) V and a little (lower case) v on each one.  When we finished we got to do some fun cutting and pasting with old book orders.

At our rug center we played with three things that start with B; Barbies, boxes, and big builders.  We had fun with all of them!
