What a fun week this is turning out to be! After a quick Morning Rug Time and a bathroom break, we walked over to Summer Breeze to trick-or-treat and sing our songs for the staff and residents. We had a little bit of time to play out on the playground before we came in for snack. Some of us might need to send in a new set of clothes because we changed into our extras so our costumes didn't get dirty.

We had fun with our table activities when we came in this morning. In addition to our puzzles, we worked with Builders and Benders and we practiced some cutting with our silly scissors. The scissors cut all kinds of squiggly lines.
In our centers today we searched for things in our October sensory bin. Mrs. Hennessy really made us work hard following some of her directions! With Miss Kathleen we colored coffee filters with a black magic marker and then dipped it in water and swirled it around. They're going to turn into beautiful black bats!
For dramatic play we had our housekeeping and trucks up on the rug. We've gotten pretty good at working the snaps and buttons on the baby clothes. We hardly need any help at all!
Then to finish off our morning we had music with Miss Caitlin. She did some really fun songs with us, including one where we got to take legs off her spider! That was fun!

We had a very messy Wednesday in our classroom! At our center with Miss Kathleen we dipped yarn in glue and then spread it around on wax paper pumpkin shapes. Some of us really liked getting all gluey and messy! We worked on our field trip t-shirts with Mrs. Hennessy. She painted our knuckles orange and we stamped them on our t-shirts to make pumpkins. It's going to be really fun to wear them on Monday. (Remember our class doesn't come to school on Monday. We meet at the Y pumpkin patch at about 9:50.) Our last center up on the rug was playing with housekeeping. We had baby dolls, kitchen sets, and cars. We made a mess, but we were really good at cleaning up when we finished!
When we went outside today, we played all over the playground, but then some of our class got together to do a show. We've done this a couple of times over the last few weeks. We sit on the steps and then we take turns performing. We always clap for our friends--and sometimes jump up out of our seats to perform right along with them. By the time we finished today we had a lot of friends from other classes who had joined us. (This is a completely kid-driven activity. They invited me over to watch, but they were definitely in charge! Kathleen)
Then when we came back in for snack we had another treat! We sang "Happy Birthday" to Leighson and she shared some delicious cupcakes with us. Some of us needed spoons to eat every last bit of ours!

Sharing a blog post...
I enjoyed the ideas in this and hope you do too. Sometimes things we do that seem like pure fun and games are educational play!

We started our day working at tables on tangrams, puzzles, and practicing with scissors. We got to show our new friend, Abigail, all around our classroom and tell her about all of the things we do.
We had some new things at our centers today. At our rug center, we played with our doll house and our construction workers set. We thought it was funny that our family for the dollhouse was bigger than our construction workers! We used Halloween cookie cutters and glitter play dough at Mrs. Hennessey’s center. You should have seen some of the beautiful things we made! We made tangram pictures at Miss Kathleen’s center--some of them were really tricky! We also practiced using the correct descriptions for each of our shapes; yellow hexagons, red trapezoids, green triangles, blue and white diamonds/parallelograms, and lots of different colored squares.
After playing on the playground we washed our hands and had our snack. We listened to some of our Halloween songs during snack. Miss Kathleen is going to try to put them on the school website so our families can hear them and help us sing them at home.
(Check our school blog www.wippreschool.blogspot.com later this week for the lyrics and hopefully the tunes!)

We had a very busy Friday! We had a visit from the firetruck, music with Miss Caitlin, plus our regular Friday times for centers, outside time and snack. When Miss Kathleen asked us about our favorite part of the day just before we went home, here were some of our answers:
- going to the park (our school playground)
- our "delicious" snack
- singing our Halloween songs
- getting a fire hat
It was a great way to end a great week!
The fish have arrived! |
There were varying emotions as we approached the fire truck. |
The fire hats eventually brought a smile to everyone's face. |
Thanks to the Southside Fire Department for coming out and spending time with us. |
